The moment I saw her, I knew I had met the woman of my dreams. At that point in time, I knew nothing of her, not her name, not her age, not her occupation, but I knew I was going to marry her.
Soon enough, I found out that this stunning woman, was called Zubaidah. She was extremely smart, witty and sweet. The only set back? She was still in secondary school!
Although I was shocked to find out that she was so young, it did not deter me from getting to know her better. Soon enough, I had fallen head over heels in love with her.
The Marriage
After a couple of months of getting to know each other, we plucked up the courage to ask our parents for their blessings to tie the knot. My parents were very supportive, but my friends were surprised at my decision to marry someone who had just turned 17. They felt that she was way to young to get married and I was being a cradle snatcher. Despite all of their harsh words, I knew she was the one. My perfect soul mate.

A year after our wedding, my wife gave birth. My son, Mohamed Shaheer is now nearly a year old.
The age difference has never been a barrier in our marriage. Just like every other relationship, we too have our ups and downs. But over time, we’ve both learnt that marriage is about compromise, understanding each other, and not getting in each other’s pockets – as well as being tolerant and trusting. While we are different in many ways, we really respect and value each other. My wife brings out the child in me, a side that I never knew I had.
All in all, marrying Zubaidah was the best decision that I have ever made. I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else.

17 year old! oh my god….that’s insane! is that even allowed?
There is no barrier when it comes to love. Their parents gave their blessing, that wud be the best of all.
This is amazing story. To go through all these at her young age. Your wife is an amazing person to sacrifice her youth time to marry someone that she loves dearly. Yes, marriage has ups and downs everybody faces it – but how we make up over it is important and when there is a will, there is a way. Good luck guys….. Congratulations

Teenagers are not ready to be married or have kids. There should a law preventing it.
Teens can drink alcohol till they are 18, or smoke or enter a nightclub or watch an ra film, but they are allowed to get married and have kids?

But I reckon, that’s not the shock factor, it’s probably the fact that a 17-year-old girl, who should be in school studying, has decided to get married and bear children.
It’s unfortunate when such young girls, don’t bother to pursue their education but decide to rely on a man to keep them going.

I’m happy for you and the story underlying your marriage. It’s a courageous act to marry a 17-year-old lass. What I mean to be courageous is by being true to yourself that she has really smitten you straight to your heart (head over heels, indeed) and now wasting any moment to grab that opportunity to show it to her. I read somewhere in the lectures of Osho, an enlightened master of 20th century, that there is benefit for a woman or man who experience already the things allowed for marriage couples. Though I hesitate to pinpoint it in respect to the perspective of other readers.

I think this article is way too short and too “sugar and spice and everything nice”. Perhaps it could be elaborated to the hurdles that they go through compared to other so called “normal” marriages. I acknowledge the fact that some people matured faster beyond their age and I’ve seen older people acting childish even after having several children. Most importantly I think everyone should be accountable of their own actions and words. I wish their marriage sustains. It does make a young person grow up fast and if she learns it fast, I don’t see any problem with the marriage at all. Nice article by the way.
