While lipstick is a no-brainer for most women, some confess that they don’t know how to apply eyeshadow. And a lot of women do wear eyeshadow, but they choose an eye color that will shock even the colorblind or make them look like panda bears.
Kidding aside, here are some tried and tested techniques you can use on how to apply eyeshadow like an expert:
1. Use one brush to apply, and another one to blend.
Using the same brush will just make your work look muddy. Also, don’t be lazy and not wash your brushes, ladies. Imagine the disaster of putting on a new color only to find out the bristles are still filled with blue eyeshadow from yesterday -- unless, of course, you were aiming for an avant garde look.
2. Use the right brushes.
On that note, invest on the right tools.
“One tip I can give is use the right brushes to apply eyeshadow. That way you can control the eyeshadow and blend very well to avoid looking messy,” according to Cathy Cantada-Dizon of Shu Uemura.
"My 2 must-have brushes for smoky eyes are the flat eyeshadow brush and the blending brush (the one that looks like a paintbrush)."

4. Use magic tape to create cat eyes.
Position tape under the edge of your eye and angle towards the tail of your brows. Apply eye shadow, using the tape as a stencil. Remove the tape and -- voila! -- instant cat eyes.
5. Apply an eye primer.
Eye primers were invented to make your eyeshadow last longer. Use it and prevent an eyelid meltdown by midday.

6. Layer on eyeshadow.
After using eye primer, most makeup artists adapt a layering technique. Since there are many types of eyeshadows, the right layering is key.
Use a cream eyeshadow first in a color that complements your skin tone, then layer it with powder or pressed eyeshadow. This way, the color intensifies and lasts.
7. Choose highly pigmented eyeshadows.
How will you know if an eyeshadow is highly pigmented? It won't have a lot of powdery fall-outs. This means it was ground well and will show the real color when applied. A highly pigmented eyeshadow will look rich and intense versus sheer and translucent. Most premium eyeshadows are made this way.
8. Dab and press.
How to apply eyeshadow and make it adhere better? Dab and press the brush on your lids first. Make sure you make an even application, though, then sweep and blend out harsh edges.
9. Use a white eye pencil
The secret to making the color pop is by applying a white eye pencil all over your lids first.
10. Do not use eyeshadow.
In connection to number 9, sometimes the best looks are not created with an actual eyeshadow but with a gel eyeliner or a fat eyeliner pencil instead. Smudge then all over the lid and blend well.
