If I told you that one school year at a world-class private high school only costs P32,500, inclusive of books and miscellaneous fees, would you jump at the opportunity to enrol your child?

This is not a drill. It’s not a mean joke. It’s a golden opportunity.

Affordable Private Education Center (APEC) is a joint venture between Ayala Corporation and Pearson Education, the British company that also owns Prentice Hall, the publisher of textbooks widely used by Filipino students. On its 4th year, it will have 27 schools located in Metro Manila, Batangas, Cavite and Rizal serving students from Grades 7 to 12.

Their vision is powerful: “To transform thousands of Filipino lives by providing high-quality private education that everyone can afford.” Aside from following the K-12 curriculum prescribed by DepEd, here are other reasons to consider enrolling your child at an APEC school:

  • Students are fully immersed in English. Regardless of their current English abilities, students are gently guided until they can confidently use it. This gives them a big advantage when they enter the workforce.
  • Learning is tech-enabled. Laptop/tablet use is part of the learning experience and is part of the tuition fee.
  • They have a no homework policy. That’s how effective their teaching methods are.
  • Their senior high school programs are co-developed by employer partners, including Ayala and non-Ayala companies. Work simulations and immersion activities help students develop the skills and values they need to improve their employability. Graduates can choose to continue on to college or start working right away.
  • CCTVs and air-conditioning in classrooms. Seriously!
  • Students feel that they are in a safe learning environment. Instead of competing with each other, students in each class help each other learn and succeed through a Mentor-Mentee program. Even teachers (called Learning Facilitators) and School Heads are very approachable.

People to whom I would entrust my children’s future

If you want to know more about quality, rest assured that all teachers are qualified. Most of them are Education majors and all are college graduates. To attract and retain good teachers, starting salaries are above minimum wage and is higher for more experienced teachers.

It was an honor to have been with School Heads, Master Teachers, Expert Teachers, and other employees for three days last month as part of a workshop. They are passionate about their jobs and truly care for their students. Not only are their hearts and souls in the right place, they were also sharp and insightful – people to whom I would entrust my children’s future.
