Though you invest in skin care products and make time to stick to a beauty regimen each day, there are certain overlooked beauty habits that could actually be aging your skin without you realizing it.
Here’s 6 of them.
You don’t really read the ingredients
Do your research and seek out serums or other products that cater to your skin’s needs. Hyaluronic acid, for instance, is a good ingredient that moisturizes, rejuvenates, and makes your skin look fuller and younger. Products rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and natural oils also work well to restore your natural glow. Beware of fillers that don’t really do much for your skin.
You don’t wash your makeup brushes often
Washing your brushes at least once a week using a gentle cleanser helps protect your skin from coming into contact with dirt, bacteria, and other irritants. Using dirty makeup brushes can lead to acne breakouts as well as eczema. So be sure not to neglect your makeup tools!
You don’t really know what your exact skin type is
You probably know what your skin type is by now, but it’s actually quite common not to be sure. If you have sensitive skin, steer clear of toners. For those with oily skin, exfoliation is a must. Do you have dry skin? You should stay away from products that can dry it out even more. Find out how to determine your skin type, here.
You wash your face with hot water
While using hot water when washing can be soothing, it can actually dry out your skin. Go for warm or normal temperature water instead. Some celebrities, like Naomi Campbell, swear by washing with cold water to make herself look younger.
You are not faithful to a regimen
Once you find the best regimen, stick with it. If you haven’t found one that best suits your skin’s needs, fret not. It’s natural for there to be a trial and error phase. You’ll encounter products that might cause irritation or breakouts. However, you must remember that constantly changing products can also work against you. Some products take time to take effect, so be patient when waiting for results, as it usually doesn’t happen overnight.
You neglect diet and exercise
Remember: it’s not just a skin care regimen that can bring out your inner glow. Sometimes, drinking more water can work better than all the products you slather on your face. It’s also been found that cutting back on sugar and upping your intake of certain superfoods, like sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and salmon as well as vitamins and antioxidants can help you look rejuvenated and refreshed!
