Growing up, Leah Rodgers and Sarah Mariuz were like two peas in a pod. This is probably due to the fact that the two are sisters and identical twins. Since childhood, they shared everything imaginable: clothes, toys, a bedroom, etc. One thing they probably never imagined they’d end up sharing, though, was their due date. Amazingly enough for these twins, that’s exactly what happened.

Shockingly, they didn’t just share their due date, they also shared the exact time of delivery. The twins both birthed their beautiful children on June 30th, at precisely 1:18AM. The 35-year-old women were only a few states away through it all. Leah birthed her son, Reid Josesph, in Denver, Colorado; Sarah gave birth to her daughter, Samantha Lynne, in La Jolla, California.

It’s easy to attribute the miraculous timing to proper planning and synchronizing of pregnancies, however, the sisters claim that they never even talked about getting pregnant with one another. In an interview with PEOPLE, Sarah Maruiz said, “We didn’t plan being pregnant at the same time. But our journeys aligned, even giving birth! Twins have a special bond, it’s hard to explain.”

A special bond indeed.

“It’s that magical twin connection I suppose. There have just been certain things in our life where things just match up – it’s odd,” the new mother added.

The twins may not have planned their pregnancies in accordance with each other, but they did announce their pregnancies to each other at the same time. During the family’s Thanksgiving get-together, the twins broke the exciting news to the whole family. However, Rodgers claims that her sister didn’t need to tell her she was pregnant–she could instinctively tell.

“I wanted it to be a surprise, but when she showed up at the door – it was the funniest thing – I opened the door, welcomed her into the home, but as soon as I saw her, I knew she was pregnant too,” Leah Rodgers told PEOPLE. “I can’t explain it, I just knew. My prediction was that she was five days behind me, and it turned out her due date was four days after me.”

The two twins, though separated by hundreds of miles, were able to spend their pregnancies together through daily texts and phone calls. They even went as far to throw a joint baby shower for their soon-to-be son and soon-to-be daughter.

After nine long months, the day finally came. Little did they know it what uncanny coincidences awaited them.

After giving birth, Leah’s husband, Kyle, texted Sarah’s husband, Nick, to give full details about the birth. Kyle absolutely was stunned.

“When my sister’s husband got the text about Reid being born at 1:18 a.m. he apparently shouted at the doctors, he couldn’t believe it!” Rodgers says. “It was literally the exact same time.”

Call it a coincidence, or chalk it up to the very special bond between twins. Either way you slice the pie, the event was best defined as miraculous. The sisters were obviously amazed to learn of the news, but they look forward to the prospect of raising their children, and of the unique bond their children will hopefully share.

“It’s a really cool thing to be able to share,” says Rodgers. “The adventure will only continue as our babies share the same birthday like we did! We can’t wait for them to grow up together.”

“It’s just really special. I’m sure they will have a deep bond because of their birthday timing,” says Mariuz.
