They played mother and daughter in the movie Ma’Rosa, which was critically acclaimed during the recently concluded 69th Cannes Film Festival.
But the lives of this real-life mother and daughter tandem may soon take very different turns.
While Jaclyn Jose shows no signs of slowing down in her acting career having bagged the Best Actress award at Cannes, her daughter, Andi Eigenmann says she is quitting showbiz.
Eigenmann was featured by Jocelyn Dimaculangan on PEP.ph. Here are the details from her interview.
“I’ve been so emotional since I’ve been to France. I was already in that part when I was on the verge of giving up na,” the young actress said.
“My time is over in showbiz and what Filipinos really look for is really different from what I can offer,” she said, adding that she refuses to stay in a world where all she does is explain herself.
According to an article in PEP.ph, Jose said her daughter is frustrated over the state of her career.

Proud of her mother and family
Jose is the first Filipina and first Southeast Asian to win the much-coveted Best Actress award in the prestigious film festival.
Jose won the ward for her role as Ma’ Rosa, a sari-sari store owner who, with the help of her husband (played by Julio Diaz), sidelines as a drug pusher. When caught by the cops, their children then scramble for bail money.
“It’s so inspiring to know that my mother has been recognized all around the world and it’s not just some event, it’s the most prestigious award-giving body in the world. My mom has basically brought our name…the name of our country and made the whole country proud and I hope it serves as an inspiration to other Filipinos who aspire to do the same,” Eigenmann gushed.
Eigenmann’s half brother, Sid Lucero, also recently won Best Actor at the 19th LA Comedy Festival for the movie Toto.
“It’s such a wonderful feeling to know that my family is really at it in terms of making sure that we will bring the name of our country, not just our last name,” she added.
Eigenmann, however, expressed her sadness over the fact that her father, the late actor Mark Gil, is no longer around to share in the family’s triumph.
Passion for her craft and life beyond acting
Despite her frustration, Eigenmann is determined to make a name for herself. In fact, seeing her mother enjoy worldwide acclaim has inspired her to get up, brush herself off, and try again.
“It helped me believe that maybe, yes, you fall down but what you do is you get back up, and you try and you try again. And then, in God’s time things like this, will come to you – to all of us,” she said hopefully, adding that being in Ma’ Rosa and at the Cannes is an achievement in itself.
“I’m just taking this as a chance to begin again and hopefully, this time, to be recognized and to be appreciated for what I can do. Not just for what I’ve done, and for how I look, but what I can do because I’m really so passionate about my craft,” she added.
Eigenmann hopes to join the Berlinale Talent Campus to study script writing.
‘I’m planning to apply for the Berlinale Talent Camp and now that I have an international film, maybe I can get in,’ said Eigenmann.
