Anne Curtis is a household name for most Filipinos — known as an actress, host, singer and one of the most sought-after endorsers. Since March 2015, she has been the Celebrity Advocate for Children for the United Nations Children’s Fund, better known as UNICEF. Through her work as an an advocate, she has now broadened her horizons even more by becoming an author.
She wrote the children’s book, entitled Anita, The Duckling Diva, with the help of Augie Rivera, illustrated by Tiago Abalos. Anne’s book aims to help raise funds for the different programs of UNICEF that target underprivileged children in the country. Some of UNICEF’s initiatives include giving children proper education, implementing nutrition programs, and child protection programs, among others.
Anne in particular is focused on Early Childhood Care, raising funds for UNICEF’s 1,000 Days of Life Campaign. The campaign starts from a child’s conception until he or she is 2 years of age, making sure that mothers and their babies stay healthy throughout the child’s first 1,000 days, from proper nutrition to screenings.
Anne’s book will be the first of the many books from Children First! Storybooks, a partnership between SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Prime Holdings, and UNICEF. The book, which is suitable for children 4 years old and above, talks about how the shy duckling Anita was able to come out of her shell because of her friends and family.
UNICEF is also set to launch five children’s books: Ang Sabi ni Nanay, Ang Sabi ni Tatay by Sacha Calagopi; Ang Dalawang Haring Siga by Rene O. Villanueva; Ang Bata sa Basket by Augie Rivera; Yaya Niya, Nanay Ko by Ma. Corazon Remigio; and Nina Wonders, Nina Asks by Marcy Dans Lee.
The illustrators of the books are from Illustrator Ng Kabataan (INK), an association of artists who create illustrations especially for children.
