In the 1990s, Ayala Malls shaped the way entertainment is enjoyed by Filipinos with the introduction of the first-ever activity center concept within a shopping mall in Glorietta. Through the years, Ayala Malls have hosted first-of-its kind shows in its activity centers – from international artist concerts, global lifestyle events, family musical shows, and world-class local shows – making live entertainment a staple in the malling culture of Filipinos.
Ayala Malls continues to blaze the trail and positively move forward in making entertainment inclusive of everyone. Last August 5, Ayala Malls Market! Market! hosted a full-house fan meet for Korean-American singer Eric Nam along with a very special guest.
Aside from a special section for PWDs during the event, Market! Market! invited a Sign Language (SL) interpreter to allow fans with hearing impairment to completely join in on the fun. The presence of the Sign Language interpreter was made possible through Market! Market!’s partnership with Hand and Heart PH, a social enterprise that aims to empower PWDs to reach their full potential. With the SL interpreter’s help, PWDs were able to fully enjoy the experience and all Eric Nam fans had an equally amazing time hanging out with their idol.
This is just the beginning, and Ayala Malls aims to make SL interpreters a staple in live entertainment in its malls moving forward. Through this initiative, Ayala Malls is working towards bridging the gap between persons with and without disabilities when they visit Ayala Malls -- so everyone, regardless of abilities, can enjoy, relax, and unwind. Aligned with its inclusivity thrust, Ayala Malls will be providing more programs that cater to marginalized PWDs such that instead of stereotyping their disabilities, we can empower them and enable their different abilities.
