On December 20, 2014, New York City Police Officer Wenjian Liu and his partner were shot and killed by a gunman in their patrol car in Brooklyn. It hadn’t even been 3 months since Officer Liu had got married.
That night, as the family grieved his death, his widow Sanny Liu, had one request for the hospital – to retrieve his sperm, so that she could have his child someday.
Baby born years after father’s death
According to a statement released by the New York Police Department (NYPD), on Tuesday, 25 July, nearly 2 years after Officer Liu’s death, Sanny’s wish finally came true. Thanks to the miracles of modern day science, she was able to give birth to her late husband’s baby, a beautiful baby girl. Detective Liu’s parents, Wei Tang Liu and Xiu Yan Li, were also present to celebrate the birth of their granddaughter.
Wonders never cease, and what is truly astonishing is that Sanny had known from the very beginning that it was going to be a baby girl. Apparently, on the very night she had requested the hospital to preserve her husband’s sperm, she had had a dream, in which he had handed her a baby girl!
Sanny has been quoted as saying, “I got pregnant through the [in-vitro fertilization] procedure and I told my friend, ‘It’s going to be a baby girl.’ My friend said, ‘No, you haven’t even checked the sonograms,’ but I was right!”
The miracle baby has been named “Angelina,” and the NYPD has also posted a picture of the happy mom and her angel, wearing a cute NYPD knit cap.
The police statement also reads, “Now, Detective Liu’s legacy can live on through his daughter. And as far as Detective Liu’s legacy goes, Sanny can’t wait to tell Angelina that her father was a hero.”
We wish this mom and baby a blessed journey ahead.
