Do you shy away from wearing tank tops because of your bacne? Those breakouts that happen on your chest, shoulders, butt, and back are a real pain, but with the proper care, you can lessen their occurrences, or totally eliminate them!

Here’s how.

1. Wipe down your sweat

Acne mechanica occurs when there is friction against skin—rubbing clogs the pores and leads to breakouts. Use a skin wipe after you break out a sweat, either after exercise or just after a walk under the hot tropical sun.

Opt for a wipe with salicylic or glycocilic acid, which is great for exfoliating.

2. Put your hair up

If you let your hair air-dry, that could be causing your breakouts. Dampness helps your hair product penetrate the skin, which could spell trouble (i.e. blemishes).

3. Switch to a better body cleanser

Already suffering from breakouts? Swap your soap or body wash for a body cleanser with salicylic acid, like this body wash from Neutrogena. You could also use a facial cleanser instead. Look for one that’s sulfate-free and has salicylic acid.

4. Deep cleanse with a brush

If your breakouts still don’t improve, try a device like a Clarisonic. This should go without saying, but you should use different brushes for your face and body.

5. Consult a dermatologist

For severe cases, you should go to a professional for prescription-level benzoyl peroxide solutions. You could also get a chemical peel or light treatments, which unclog your pores and speed up the healing process.
