Mothers from across the country came together this October for the launch of Moms Speak Up, a powerful new initiative by Beacon, the pioneering mental health and well-being platform for Filipino parents. This event was a resounding call to recognize and address the mental health challenges Filipino mothers face, with the goal of shifting cultural views, strengthening workplace policies, and reducing the stigma around maternal mental health.

Shining a Light on the Mental Health of Filipino Mothers

Beacon’s recent survey of nearly 200 moms highlighted the often-hidden struggles they endure: 75 percent have faced stress or burnout, 65 percent report anxiety, and 35 percent battle depression. Working mothers cited the urgent need for flexible, outcome-based workplaces. Whereas, overall findings underscored a common thread—the critical role of support and understanding, especially for working moms balancing home and career.

Kate Delos Reyes, founder and CEO of Beacon, shared the survey insights on maternal mental health.

A Shared Mission: Advocates and Leaders Speak Out

Senator Risa Hontiveros, a prominent advocate for mental health and maternal rights, urged the community to foster a support system that makes resources available for mothers’ mental health. “Together, we can build a society where help is accessible, and hope is a constant,” she shared in her keynote address.

In addition to panel discussions, attendees explored “Art as Therapy” in an interactive session led by expressive arts expert Ross Tiu. Here, moms found a creative outlet to release emotions, connect with others, and gain insights into nurturing mental well-being.

#MomsSpeakUp, a social movement

The Moms Speak Up online campaign invites mothers nationwide to share their mental health journeys with the hashtag #MomsSpeakUp, amplifying the conversation and fostering a community of empathy and support. “There is power in every mother’s story,” said Kate Delos Reyes, founder and CEO of Beacon. “Through these shared truths, we hope to dismantle stigma and ignite change.”
