Nothing like a new haircut to make a woman feel like a more empowered version of herself. That's one of the reasons why we love getting a haircut after a break-up, on our birthday, or at the start of a new year. It just transforms your whole look and makes you feel more confident with yourself.

But let's face it. As moms, we don't have the luxury of time to style our hair for hours. There are days that the most we can do is run our fingers through it or tie it up in a messy bun.

Being a mom means putting your child's needs first most of the time, but it doesn't mean that you have to place yourself last.

So while we don't have the time and the money to go on regular blowouts or color our roots every week, we can definitely go to our favorite stylist to give our hair its much-needed update. Something fresh and quirky, but still low-maintenance and fuss-free. Never underestimate the power of a new haircut to make you feel good about this new chapter in your life.

Without further ado, here's our list of the best haircuts and hairstyles for moms (inspired by our favorite celebrities), depending on which stage of motherhood you're in right now.

Best haircut from moms-to-be

You're pregnant. Congrats! One nice way to celebrate your entry to parenthood and this exciting chapter in your life is by getting a new do.

One of the great benefits of pregnancy that you'll appreciate is it gives you thicker and shinier hair (the hormones does this). However, the pounds you'll gain during the next 9 months will change your frame, and make your face a bit rounder than you'd hope.

So if you're going for a haircut, best to avoid extremely long or extremely short dos for now.

"Your face shape and body proportions will obviously change during pregnancy. Excessively long or short hairstyles can make your face look fuller and emphasize your changing body shape," said Louis Licari, a celebrity hairstylist.

He suggested that hair is best-worn chin- to shoulder-length with a long bang and soft lines on the side to disguise any pregnancy weight.

  • Medium-length hair with layers

As Licari said, not too long, not too short. Medium-length hair is best for pregnant women who feel hot when outdoors. Make it trendy by adding layers and texture to your cut.

  • Hair parted on the side

If you're not up for a haircut yet, change your do by parting your hair to the side. Remember, when pregnant, you have to hold off on having your hair colored, so parting your hair on the side changes your look, takes the focus off your roots while not doing anything drastic.

We know the expert said don't cut your hair too short. But pregnancy hormones give you such a feminine glow, so if you were afraid of trying a super short haircut before, maybe you can finally pull it off this time around.

Best haircut for breastfeeding moms

Remember when you had such thick hair during pregnancy? Well, a few weeks after giving birth, you might notice that your hair starts to get thinner. It's common for new moms to experience hair shedding or hairfall after pregnancy. Not to worry, as your hair will go back to normal and it will be full again within a year.

So in the meantime, here are the haircuts and styles that will disguise hair shedding and makes your hair look fuller:

  • Long bob

The "lob" or long bob is a cut that is near the shoulders. It's very popular among moms because it flatters most face shapes and hair types, not to mention it's quite low-maintenance.

  • Fluffy ponytail

A tight ponytail will make you look older and probably damage your hair follicles, so keep the ponytail loosely gathered at the crown of your head. Make it look thicker by wrapping strands around a wand in chunks and then pulling out a few face-framing pieces.

  • Layered pixie

Breastfeeding can be demanding during the first year, so keeping your hair short and fuss-free is a good idea. Also, if you haven't heard of the term hair tourniquet, read this to inspire you to forego growing your hair out just yet. Besides, this cut adds volume to your hair and frames your face nicely.

  • Choppy layers with bangs

Layers are great for making hair look lush and full of volume. And bangs are just a nice way of looking put together while being low-maintenance.

  • Grown-out crop

If you took the leap and got the pixie cut when you were pregnant, then just let it grow out naturally while having it trimmed regularly. It's also even cuter because it makes you look more feminine, especially when you tuck it behind your ear.
