Shocking! Fake bomb found in front of Camp CrameShocking! Fake bomb found in front of Camp Crame

Residents of Camp Crame were gripped in fear after an IED or improvised explosive device was found nearby. Thankfully, it turned out to be fake.

It was discovered by a garbage collector

An improvised explosive device (IED) was discovered by a garbage collector around noon on 4th Street in Barangay Bagong Lipunan. Upon finding the explosive, the garbage collector immediately went to PO1 Kevin Tobias who was getting his uniform in one of the nearby stores in Camp Crame.

PO1 Tobias then advised the people to stay away from the bomb before calling the EOD (Explosive and Ordnance Division).

Resident Telina Sica, who was also informed by the garbage collector, shares: "We were alarmed because it has a timer, it is similar to the bombs that we would see in the news."

Thankfully, there was no explosive inside the purported IED.

They are still unsure of where it came from

According to Supt. Edwin Ellazar, officer-in-charge of the Operating Division of the Explosive Ordnance Division of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the 'bomb' had "no capability to explode simply because there was no explosive inside."

He adds that the 'bomb' that the garbage collector discovered was similar to the ones that are being used in the training program for bomb disposal units. However, he was quick to deny that the 'bomb' came from them.

It is still unclear whether the bomb was part of a plot to scare local residents, or if it was thrown by a trainee undergoing the bomb disposal course.

Should we be scared of a bomb threat?

While it's true that a lot of bomb threats are fake, you still have to treat bomb threats very seriously. Having a healthy fear instead of being irrational and paranoid is the best way to go about it.
