"Motherhood has no time-outs," said one mom who had to continue breastfeeding despite breast abscess

"Motherhood has no time-outs," said one mom who had to continue breastfeeding despite breast abscess

Despite all the pain and hardships, you will endure."

Moms who had to nurse a sickness while nursing their babies, you can definitely relate to this mom’s experience as she dealt with breast abscess while breastfeeding her child.

What can you read in this article?

  • What is a breast abscess?
  • Her takeaway from her painful experience

February of this year had been physically draining for our family. My husband got sick, and I had physical challenges as well.

I thought I had clogged ducts because I was experiencing swelling and pain in my breast. I just continued breastfeeding my baby and did all possible home remedies, yet the pain continued, and the swelling got worse.

While trying to mend this situation, I also got a burn on my left hand after being splashed with boiling water. But all moms know that despite our pain and being injured, our job as a mother continues.

I can still remember the night I got the burn. While I was panicking, my baby woke up and I still need to feed her. Injured on my left, nursing on my right. Truly, motherhood never stops; there are no time-outs.

Breast abscess

After more than five days of having a problem with my left breast, I took the courage to try online consultation and I’m grateful we did. Just by the looks, I was told that my situation is neither clogged ducts nor mastitis. It was a breast abscess.

According to Healthline, an abscess is an accumulation of pus inside the body caused by infections, and an infection in the breast can lead to a breast abscess, which is common among lactating females.

Some symptoms of breast abscess include pain, redness, and swelling of the breast. Did I mention that I still needed to feed my daughter with that same infected breast? However, I am more than grateful to the Lord that in spite of all the pain and hardship, He sustained us.

In that same week, we visited this breastfeeding doctor in Cavite. They did a minor procedure on me and I took some medicines and antibiotics. My burn healed as I was healing from my breast abscess.

Motherhood has no time-outs

One of the challenges that come with being a mom is that while you are healing physically, you still have to continue being a mom to your child. This made me realize how strong mothers are. Despite their own pain, mothers continue to serve their children and family.

Despite her weakness, a mother chooses to think of others before herself. It is not because she is a martyr, but simply because her love for her child and the family gives her the joy and the strength to endure.

Why am I sharing all these? Because I’m grateful we are still alive despite difficulties. I’m grateful for my husband who went beyond the usual just to serve and take care of us. I’m grateful for the people who encouraged and prayed for us.

I’m grateful that time and time again, God showed up as my healer, never leaving me nor forsaking me. I’m grateful I trusted God that all will come to pass.

Message to you, Mommy

breast abscess

To date, I am now back in shape. Physically fit to breastfeed and take good care of my daughter. Today, I am 100% convinced that God is faithful. God heals. God intervenes. God shows up. God listens and He answers. God is merciful and gracious. God is mindful. God cares.

However, we cannot deny the reality that as moms- we still need to take care of ourselves. We have to protect and take good care of our health no matter what because being in good health is our best gift to our children.

Please, if you feel like something is wrong with you, consult your doctor. It is better to think ahead than be sorry. Always put importance on your health. It is not being selfish; it is prioritizing what truly matters and your health is one of those things.

To you who’s reading this up until this part of the post, be encouraged that God will see you through as well. There is pain and difficulties, but He will sustain you. He will provide all your needs, even the faith that will keep you going.

Be on your ground. Keep praying. Jesus already died for us on the cross, what else can He not do for you? I pray that as you continue today, may God’s peace, strength, and provision be upon you. It will soon come to pass. You will overcome by the grace of God!
