Jermelyn Bactismo, 23, told the Department of Health (DOH) 7 that her attending doctor (whose name was withheld in the report) accidentally slashed her urinary bladder during a routine Caesarean section.

DOH 7 forwarded Bactismo’s complaint to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) to allow for the said instution to conduct their own investigation into the incident.

Hospital management has already put together a team to begin the inquiry.

In an interview with Sun Star Cebu, DOH 7 Health and Promotions Officer Ligaya Moneva said their investigation will have a limited scope as they can only look into the licensing and regulation aspect of the hospital.

Bactismo said that aside from the health problems caused by the alleged negligence, she and her partner Leonard Parantar had to spend a lot of money for medication.

Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Dennis Villarojo reminded Cebu’s medical sector that “it is the responsibility of medical practitioners to take care of their patients, regardless of their financial and social status.”
