Preparation tips:
Adjust to your taste buds
Just adjust the above recipe according to your own taste buds. If your kids don’t like onions, or tomatoes or any of the other ingredients – just omit it. The main ingredient is avocado – so as long as you have that you are fine.
Taste as you prepare the recipe
Since the size of the avocados and limes will vary, you will need to adjust the amount of lime and salt listed in the recipe according to your own taste. Make sure to taste your “avocado mixture” before you add the salt and lime. You can add as little or as much of each ingredient as you desire. You need to adjust it according to your family’s preferences.
If you are unsure about how much of each ingredient to add, keep a little bit of the avocado aside. That way, if you add too much salt or lime, you can add more avocado to balance out the flavour.
Extra kick
Unless you are making the Guacamole for children, I highly recommend adding either fresh green chili or “red chili” powder to the guacamole. This really gives it a little extra kick.
Eat when fresh
Try to eat your Guacamole when it is freshly made. Otherwise, make sure to store it in an airtight container in the fridge. Avocados if kept out for too long turn brown (it’s still ok to eat – but just doesn’t look as appealing).
Add spinach – optional ingredient
Try adding chopped baby spinach to your Guacamole. The yummy flavour stays the same, but the Guacamole becomes even healthier this way!
Don’t be fooled – store bought Guacamole
Don’t get fooled into thinking that store bought Guacamole is healthy (especially if you are buying this for your kids). Make sure you read the ingredients if you decide to purchase Guacamole from the grocery store. Since avocados are expensive, a lot of pre-packaged Guacamole contains sour cream as the primary ingredient and not avocado.
