There is such a thing as a mother’s instinct, and because of what happened to mom Ayle Heller, she’ll always trust her motherly instincts from now on.
She noticed her baby wasn’t moving
Ayla Heller, a new mom, shared her close call on Facebook about the events that led up to her daughter Maddy’s birth.
She first noticed something unusual when Maddy wasn’t moving inside her tummy. She was at 38 weeks pregnant and was at work during the incident.
Ayla writes, “Pretty early that morning I had already noticed Maddy wasn’t kicking around very much but had assumed she was having a less active day (which happened regularly). By noon, I felt her adjust her position which brought to my attention that she still hadn’t kicked, but at least I had felt some kind of movement.”
Later that evening, her husband, Dalton, asked her if their daughter had been kicking inside her tummy. She suddenly realized that she didn’t move the whole day, and she became worried. Not wanting to panic, she took a bath, and checked her baby’s movement with a doppler. Thankfully, there was a heartbeat, but no movement.
Their worry slowly starting to escalate, and unsure about what to do, Ayla texted her mother, as they checked online for any information on what to do. Unsurprisingly, the information they saw online was conflicting, with some saying she should go to the hospital, while others said it’s normal.
Eventually, Ayla’s mother convinced them to rush to the hospital where her doctor said she needed to have an emergency C-section. Thankfully, her child came out healthy, but little did they know how close they were to tragedy.
Trust your instincts
In her recovery room, Ayla’s doctor told her that her placenta aged prematurely, and basically “gave up”. She was told that it wasn’t preventable, and doctors still don’t know why it happens.
Ayla’s mom then asked the doctor what could’ve happened if Ayla didn’t go to the hospital, and the doctor’s reply gave them chills.
She shares, “My mother asked what would have happened had I not gone in when I did. ‘She wouldn’t be here’ was the reply. She wouldn’t have made it the rest of the night.”
Ayla stresses the importance of trusting your instincts, and always taking steps to always be safe, rather than sorry. She reminds moms to never ignore any feelings of worry, since that might mean the difference between joy, and tragedy.
