No marriage is perfect. However, it doesn’t mean that you can’t do your best to make your marriage the best that it can be.
These habits might seem harmless, or even funny at times, but they can have severe problems later on if you don’t try and change it.
1. Sharing each and every detail of your marriage to other people
Talking about your marriage with your friends and family is no big deal. However, the problem starts when you start sharing even the most intimate details of your marriage to other people, such as the stuff that goes on in the bedroom.
This can break the trust in your relationship, and trust is one of the most important things that should be maintained in a marriage.
2. Watching too much porn
Porn is a divisive issue for a lot of couples. Some couples feel that watching a little bit of porn can be fun, while others feel that since they’re already married and committed to each other, there’s no need for pornography.
However, we can all agree that too much pornography is bad, as it can cause addiction, and even loss of sexual desire for your spouse. If you need pornography to ‘get in the mood’, then there might be something wrong
3. Avoiding arguments too much
While it’s true that constantly arguing can take its toll on a marriage, avoiding arguments entirely can also have a similar effect.
Arguments are actually normal in any healthy relationship, as couples don’t always agree 100% of the time. Arguments let you share how you feel, and can help a couple understand each other better. Of course, arguments have to be resolved, and couples should never resort to mud slinging or insulting the other person just to ‘win’ the argument.
4. Too much jealousy
It’s normal to sometimes feel jealous, especially if your husband or your wife spends too much time with other people. However, problems start to arise when the jealousy turns into a complete lack of trust.
If you want your spouse to trust you, then you should learn to trust them as well. Jealousy isn’t a good thing to have constantly in a relationship, and it can lead to a lot of trust issues down the road.
5. Losing the romance
Married couples, especially those who have been married for a while, can sometimes fall into a routine. While it’s totally normal, the problem arises when they start losing the romance and excitement in their marriage.
You don’t have to be sweet with each other 100% of the time, but going on dates every so often, or just having a romantic night at home can really keep the fire of your love burning.
6. Losing independence
Just because you’re married doesn’t mean that your entire life is dedicated towards your spouse. Married couples should have a life outside of their marriage, and they should be able to go out with their friends or have some interests and hobbies for themselves.
Your marriage is important, but so is your individuality.
7. Gifts as a resolution to problems
Giving gifts just to end a fight or an argument is a bad thing to do. Gifts don’t really solve anything, so even if it stops the argument, there’s a chance that later on, the problem will pop up again.
Talking, listening, and understanding are the important things to remember in order to resolve fights.
8. Not listening
Listening is one of the most important things in a marriage. Some couples don’t listen to each other anymore, and that’s how big problems start.
Listening helps you understand the needs of your husband or wife, and lets you know what they want to say, and what they want to do in the relationship. Be open-minded and try to look at things from their perspective.
