Dina Tenerife Celo, a 45-year-old Pinay domestic helper in Abu Dhabi, was gifted Dh23,000 or 320,000 pesos by her grateful employer. Her employer will also be financing the construction of Dina’s new home.

Her employer said that it was the least she could do

Melissa McPike, Dina’s employer, shared that giving her the house and lot was the least she could do after Dina did so much for her children and her family.

She added that she trusted Dina so much, that she even left her debit card with her. She said that Dina is already a part of their family, and her two sons fondly call the Pinay domestic helper “Aunty.”

Dina started working for Melissa’s family back in 1998, and her contract ended in 2000. However, they still kept in touch, and Melissa even offered to hire Dina again. But for one reason or another, things didn’t pan out.

In 2014, Dina once again found herself jobless, and Melissa once again offered to hire her. This time, Dina graciously accepted the offer, and she found herself taking care of Melissa’s family once more.

She’s grateful for Melissa’s help

According to Dina, she’s not only grateful for the financial assistance that Melissa and her family provided her, but she’s also thankful that she was treated not simply as a nanny, but also as a member of the family.

She said that being with Melissa’s family and taking care of her sons made up for the difficulties of working abroad. She also suffered through a marriage that eventually didn’t work out.

Regardless, Dina is looking towards the future, and she’s excited to finally have a home of her own.

It just goes to show, people who are dedicated to their work really are rewarded!
