Dr. Gellina Maala, Our Resident TAPfluencer Mommy Pedia

How lucky can you be to have your mommy be a pediatrician?  Those who follow the TAP Facebook lives and our activities, then you will know our TAPFluencer!

Get to know our favorite mommy-pedia, Dr. Gellina Maala.
As moms, we always turn to our pediatrician for advice when it comes to our child’s health. Here at The Asian Parent (TAP) Philippines , we’re so lucky to have a mommy-pediatrician as our partners in giving practical medical advice to fellow parents. We’re so honored to have Dr. Gellina Maala as one of our TAPfluencers.
What to read in this article:

  • Who is TAPfluencer Dr. Gellina Maala?
  • Dr. Gel’s hopes and dreams for her children
  • What does a busy doctor-mom like Dr. Gel wish for herself?

Who is Dr. Gellina Maala?

Dr. Gellina Ann Suderio-Maala, or Dr. Gel  is a licensed pediatrician and a hands-on mom to two kids (and a baby on the way!).  She is also a blogger and a member of our online community of mommy influencer, TAP VIP Moms or TAPfluencers.

Dr. Gel is a very active member of our TAP community. If you follow The Asian Parent PH on social media, you might have already seen her in one of our Facebook Live episodes, giving fellow parents medical advice and encouragement. Despite her busy schedule as a medical practitioner, she even takes the time to answer questions in our online forum with our #AskDok questions.

No doubt about it, Dr. Gel enjoys being part of the TAP online community.

“I love being a TAPFluencer mom because I get to meet other mommies, learn from them, help other parents, and promote awareness about the different aspects of parenting,” she shares.

Mommy Gel to her kids

One of the reasons Mommy Gel enjoys being part of our community is she gets to meet other mamas who she can relate to when it comes to raising kids.

She might be Dr. Gellina Maala to her patients, but her role that Dr. Gel loves the most is being a mom to her kids. For her, the best part of being a mom is, “Seeing my children grow to the little humans they are one day at a time.”

Despite being a doctor who specializes in children’s health, Dr. Gel believes that her superpower is giving kisses with healing powers to her kids, as well as giving her kids “the look.”

“When I do that to my kids they just know something’s not right or they did something mommy didn’t like.” shared Dr. Gel.

Just like any mother, Dr. Gel wants nothing but the best for her children. But mostly hopes that they will grow up to be good and resilient individuals.

“I want them to be strong and keep their faith despite many challenges. These obstacles that will come in their lives are not dead ends but rather a stepping stone to good life or success.” she says.

Just like Dr. Gel finds fulfillment in being a doctor, she  wants her kids to pursue their own dreams in the future. “I hope they will find a career they are passionate about, one that will bring their lives fulfillment,” she adds.

Giving advice to other moms

But she believes that in order for her kids to grown up as good individuals, she has to show them how to be one and lead by example. “Monkey see, monkey do. So if you want your kids to grow up as a good person be the role model they would look up to.”

Dr. Gel is used to giving parents advice when it comes to their children’s health. But when asked to give advice to parents on how to raise kids, the doctor shares a simple but meaningful lesson.

“Love is best spoken and shown. We have to make our children feel loved no matter the circumstance.”

Why self-care is important

Now that she’s taking care of two kids, and have another one on on the way, Dr. Gel’s one request for herself is the same to what most moms have on their wishlist – time for herself.

“I am an advocate of self- love and self- care. But due to my work, I sometimes forget that I have to take care of myself too. Whenever I remember that, I always go back to questioning myself with “How will I be able to provide 100% of my care to my family if I will not give 100% care to myself?”
