Wedding and engagement rings are symbolic of commitment, and though many of us would say otherwise, we tend to link the ring’s price tag with the relationship’s worth.

One theAsianparent Community user asked the community about the factors they took under consideration when choosing their rings:

Does size matter? Not really

When it comes to stone size or value, the overall consensus was that it doesn’t matter. Some users even said that they asked for smaller rings! “My engagement ring is a simple solitaire piece,” wrote Yuna L. “I asked for a ring that wouldn’t look obnoxious because I knew that if it was too much, I wouldn’t be allowed to wear it with my uniform at work. We haven’t decided on the wedding bands yet but it will be simple as well.”

Similarly, Hui Q.N. wrote: “I’m not someone who likes bling. I specifically requested that I do not want any diamonds, so my wedding ring is matte black and matte silver.”

Good design is key

Some users, like Reine T., said that the design was more important than the size of the rock: “Personally, I feel that the design is much more important than the stone size. The wedding band I chose does not have any diamonds. It is a matte silver ring with a unique design.”

One important consideration for Li T.G. was how wearable the ring was, and she has a point. She wrote, “Comfort is the most important criteria when choosing wedding rings. You’re gonna be wearing it for life!”

Your relationship > your ring

Almost all the answers stated that the ring is nowhere near as significant as the relationship—it doesn’t matter if your ring isn’t too impressive, just as long as the relationship is solid.

Rene S. said it perfectly when she wrote: “What is important is the promises made are kept and honored. The ring is just a ring.”
