Unbenkonwst to most, one can heal and be healed through the practice of aromatherapy.

Aromatherapy employs the application of volatile essential oils that have been extracted from aromatic plants in order to naturally restore the cells and revive their energy.

With a few drops of oil rubbed on the skin or placed in a diffuser, tiny molecules travel throughout our body, sending off a wealth of benefits.

This unique healing technique is becoming widely practiced here in the Philippines, commonly by mothers who believe in the dynamic properties contained in essential oils.

One avid aromatherapy practitioner is green mom, Nina Bustamante.

Nina always keeps a bottle of Lavender and Thieves each handy.  She applies them everyday on herself and her family.

Whenever her young daughter has stomachache, she would simply Lavender around the belly button while softly speaking words of affirmations.

She also uses this very versatile and pleasantly fragrant oil behind the ear as a relaxant, or on the bottom of the feet to induce a peaceful sleep or on sunburnt areas and scars. In fact, her daughter has a 2-year old stitch mark that is already disappearing.

Thieves, on the other hand is her ultimate immune system booster. She applies it under the feet and covers them with socks whenever she is in a place that is likely to be infected, particularly when travelling. Applied with a cotton ball, this has appeased her daughter’s toothache.

It is said that the anti-virus properties of this 5-oil blend (Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary) dates back to the time of the Bubonic Plague when thieves managed to survive the plague because they wore a heavy coat and a mask infused with these oils.

Basil Oil has also provided her instant relief. When her daughter had an earaches, she just put a drop of this oil and the pain went away.

Purification Oil, a blend of Citronella, Lavandin, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Myrtle and Tea Tree, is her natural fumigator. She adds a few drops in a cotton ball and simply pass it on any air vent she comes close to: in the car; in the room; in the train or in the plane.

Cedarwood Oil works on reducing her daughter’s nail biting. She applies this earthy oil to her daughter’s nape and to the upper soles of her feet every night until the symptom recedes.
