According to SWS, the self-rated poverty reading back in 2014 was at around 52%, and it either has been maintained or has steadily declined ever since.

The survey was conducted on 1,500 adults nationwide.

Less people think that they are food poor

The decline has been felt throughout the country, as the numbers for Visayas and Mindanao have also declined.

The study also looked at the number of Filipinos who considered themselves as being food poor, or not having access to healthy food for their families. Surprisingly, the percentage of people who said that they were food poor has dropped to a record low of just 34%, one of the lowest ever recorded.

While poverty is still a big problem in the country, the fact that less people feel that they are poor is very reassuring. It gives us hope that someday, poverty can be eradicated.
