It was just a slow Sunday afternoon in the Guevera household when five men, pretending to be internet service providers, arrived at their doorstep.
Dennis Cruz Guevarra, an account executive of a publication was then brutally beat up and hogtied along with his wife, daughter and sister-in-law.
One of the assailants even tried to shoot Guevara but then the gun jammed and so he was unable to do so.
The five intruders took practically all that they could carry: jewelry, mobile phones, laptops, appliances and even his daughter’s snacks weren’t spared.
All in all, they got away with up to P250,000 worth of valuables.
Authorities investigating the case have encountered difficulties because the family refuse to give statements as of now.
Police believe that this may be due to their need to recover from the traumatizing event.
They also discovered that the real target of the home invasion was the Guevaras’ next-door neighbor but since the household denied them entry into the home, they decided to rob the Guevara home instead.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the subdivision and interviewing the neighbors who live within the vicinity.
Home robbery cases rise in incidence especially during the holidays.
Authorities call on families to be vigilant and careful at all times, even during the daytime.
