What would you do if you saw five men beating up your husband? This was the dilemma that former beauty queen Carlene Aguilar found herself in when she and her husband were attacked while checked-in at the Grand Boracay Hotel.

According to Carlene, on May 1, she was walking back to her hotel room around one in the morning when the son of the hotel’s owner bumped into her despite the hallway being spacious enough to accommodate them comfortably. Despite this, Carlene said that she and her husband – who witnessed what happened from their hotel door – let the incident pass as they did not want to aggravate the situation since the son allegedly reeked of alcohol.

A few moments later, the couple heard loud banging on their hotel door and looked through its peephole to see Mr. Tony Tan (hotel owner), the son who bumped into Carlene earlier, his older brother and two security guards. According to Carlene, her husband opened the door, assuming that the elder Tan was a decent man, however, he was immediately hit with a pitcher by the older brother.

In an attempt to defend himself, Carlene’s husband grabbed a nearby bottle and struck his assailant on the wrist. It was then Mr. Tony Tan and the rest of the group began hitting Carlene’s husband, mostly on his head. They allegedly even hit Carlene as she pleaded with them to stop. The men finally let up and Mr. Tony Tan then ordered that Carlene and her husband leave the hotel, which they promptly did and immediately sought medical attention for the wounds that Carlene’s husband had sustained.
