Now on its second year, Gabay Guro launched the Teachers Train in partnership with the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) during the Teacher’s Month which started last September 5. The Gabay Guro Train, which uses the LRT-1 Generation 3 Train, will run for a year starting September 18. Just in time for World Teachers Day on October 5, the launch of the 2019 Gabay Guro Teachers Train is extra special. Some celebrities serenaded the teachers through a one-of-a-kind LRT karaoke.

Gabby Concepcion and Jay-R melted the hearts of the audience during their performances as the teachers sang along with them. PBB teens Kaori Oinuma, Karina Bautista, Aljon Mendoza, and Rhys Miguel also joined the teachers in the LRT karaoke. Acoustic Duo also sang to the teachers at the Gabay Guro Teachers Train.

The Gabay Guro Teachers Train goes back to its roots with the Baybayin as its theme. The Baybayin is an ancient Filipino writing system that began during the pre-colonial times. This year, the baybayin pervaded national consciousness through a law proposing to make it the national writing system. It has always been a source of national pride. Coincidentally, UNESCO declared 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages.

Gabay Guro is the flagship program of PLDT-Smart Foundation that provides abundant support and assistance to teachers nationwide. Building the nation one teacher at a time, Gabay Guro has seven pillars, including Scholarships, Teachers’ Training, Teachers’ Tribute, Classroom Donation, Connectivity and Computerization, Livelihood Programs, and Digital Innovation.
