Five months into her pregnancy, Tana Ramsay, wife of Gordon Ramsay, miscarried. The 48-year-old restaurateur and celebrity chef broke the tragic news to his 5.7 million followers on Facebook by way of a heartfelt, powerful post.

“Hi guys,” Gordon wrote. “Tana and I want to thank you so much for your support over the past couple of weeks. We had a devastating weekend as Tana has sadly miscarried our son at five months. We’re together healing as a family, but we want to thank everyone again for all your amazing support and well wishes. I’d especially like to send a big thank you to the amazing team at Portland Hospital for everything they’ve done. Gx.”

The couple have been married for 20 years and have four lovely children together: 18-year-old Megan, 16-year-old twins Jack and Holly, and 14-year-old Matilda.

It was just last month when a beaming Gordon confirmed, in an interview on The Late Late Show that his wife was pregnant with their fifth child, who was due in September.

“You have four teenagers in the house. That’s a lot of hormones. Are you and Tana surviving that?” asked the show’s host, James Corden.

“[I have] three girls and a boy,” he responded, adding after a slight pause: “And one more on the way!”

Though known for his “potty mouth” which many viewers find both entertaining and endearing, Gordon claims his kids—who are all teenagers—don’t really take after him in this department.

“They don’t curse,” he said in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“How is that possible…is that their way of rebelling?” joked the host, who is also a father of three.

“I said, Look, cursing is not smart, it’s an industry language and sometimes Daddy lets it slip…20 times a day,” he explained. “So I came up with some really nice, sort of alternatives to curse words.”

These alternatives are—naturally—food-themed.

“So rather than saying the word ‘s–t,’ which, you know, is not nice…’Shitake’! Like the mushroom. It’s not nice saying the word ‘f–k,’ so we say the word ‘fructose.’ ‘Ass?’ ‘Asparagus!'”

Of course, all of his kids have been trained in their dad’s kitchen.

In fact, his daughter Matilda inherited his discerning palate. She once appeared on an episode of MasterChef Junior as a guest judge; she also demonstrated how to make a Ramsay household favorite: Salmon en Croute.

The 14-year-old foodie later went on to star in her very own cooking show.

“They’re pretty decent little chefs,” Gordon said in the interview. “Teaching them how to cook properly, I think was fundamental. Weekends now [are] a lot more competitive, ’cause they cook for us.”
