Looking for great songs to share with your baby? Read on to find out what musical tunes we recommend for your little one.

Shakespeare once wrote, “If music be the food of love, play on.” A strong body of research actually shows that crooning to babies while in the womb and after birth can help strengthen the parent-child relationship. Babies love music and enjoy the warmth that goes with it. Apart from passing down songs that were sung to you when you were a child and the typical nursery rhymes, if you are a first time mother and are in search of great songs to share with your baby, then you may want to take the following into consideration:

Songs for sleeping

Songs have a special spot in bedtime rituals. Sing to your child while putting her to sleep, maybe after your little reading routine. You can sing Rock-a-bye Baby, Hush Little Baby, and other lullabies. Other great songs to share with your baby may be more instrumental, especially the classics. It’s never too early to introduce your little one to the likes to the likes of Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. Have the music playing softly in the background as your baby falls asleep.

Songs for learning

There are several great songs to share with your baby that are not only meant to entertain him but to educate him, as well. Such songs include Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, and its Filipino version Paa, Tuhod, Balikat, Ulo, which teaches your baby about the different body parts. There are songs that teach counting too, such as One, Two, Buckle My Shoe, and 1-2-3-4-5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive. There are several songs available on-line that teach about color, counting and phonics, all of this and more at the tip of your fingers.

Music has always been and always will be a good way for parent and child to bond together. Singing established songs or making up your own is a great way to strengthen your ties with each other, and what makes it better is that it is a bonding event that doesn’t cost a cent but makes everyone happy!
