On November 13, young Louis Delplace went to see the Eagles of Death Metal concert with his mom Elsa, 35, and his grandmother, Patricia San Martin, 61 at Bataclan Concert Hall.
When gunmen suddenly barged into the venue midway through the show, the 5-year-old was immediately kept safe from the rain of bullets that left 89 people dead.
When the terrorists then detonated their suicide vests, he was wrapped in his mother arms, surviving the grisly massacre. But he lost his mother and grandmother that tragic night.
Grandma was also a hero
In a report released by Times of India, his grandmother also tried to protect him. He was found covered in blood.
In a tribute to Elsa Delplace published in LePoint Magazine, her friend Sihem Souid wrote, “Her son Louis, her ray of sunshine, was with her. Louis was found in Vincennes hospital, distraught and covered in his mother’s blood as she tried to protect him from the bullets.
Elsa was a joyous person who always had a smile on her lips, even at difficult times. She was involved in the voluntary, cultural and artistic worlds. She played the cello brilliantly.
She always fought against injustice. I think it was part of her family – her Chilean mother fled the dictatorship of Pinochet.”
