Tucked away in Kapitolyo, Pasig, is a gem of a restaurant waiting to be discovered.

Veering away from the string of dining spots that line up United and East Capitol Drive, Hiyas Modern Filipino Comfort Food offers its patrons an unforgettable dining experience.

When you walk into Hiyas, you are welcomed by wooden tables and stools for little guests. A chess board and select books are available to keep your kids busy.

Set against white walls, the restaurant is brought to life with wooden windows framing mirrors and furniture that are reminiscent of something you’d see at lola’s provincial home. Even more interesting is the lighting made up of light bulbs enclosed in mason jars.

Hiyas also has a number of tables perfect for little guests at the front of the restaurant.

So while mom, dad and their friends chat over good food, the little ones can play or be kept busy with activities at the front.

Boneless Adidas (P215)

Hiyas serves a wide selection of classic Filipino favorites such as Kare-kare, Adidas, Pancit Bihon and more, but all, of course, served with their unique twist.

Hiyas also serves food that is easy to bite into and pleasing to the eyes, so it won’t be hard to get your child to dig into their meal.

To start, order the Boneless Adidas (P215) which is the elevated version of what many enjoy ordering off of street vendors.

Deboned, the Adidas is cooked with mushrooms and is served atop deep-fried rice paper.

This is perfect for kids or visiting friends because Adidas in its original form (chicken feet) may not be appealing to all.

Therefore, Boneless Adidas is probably the best way to ease someone into the world of Filipino food.

We also recommend that you order Granada (P275), bacon wrapped cheese-stuffed green chilies with crumbed meatballs filled with cheese and green chili.

Beef Belly Kare Kare (P485)

For your main course, Beef Belly Kare Kare (P485) is a must-try! Hiyas believes in serving dishes made with the freshest ingredients possible, so everyday, they make it a point to grind up whatever’s necessary to make their deliciously thick and “peanut buttery” Kare Kare sauce.

T-bone Tapsilog (P690)

However, if you have a big appetite, go for their T-bone Tapsilog (P690). Hiyas’ version of Tapsilog, the dish entails a huge T-bone served with 2 sunny side up eggs and garlic rice. Last but not the least, be sure to order their crispy yet easy to bite into El Bagnet (P395).

Cap off your meal with Pritong Sorbetes (P170), fried ice cream served with ube caramel sauce. Or better yet, indulge in their Chocnut Turon (P185), which happens to be their best-selling dessert.

After all, you can never go wrong with Turon with Chocnut with Vanilla ice cream and Muscuvado caramel dip.
