They say that the first step to recovery is acknowledging that you have a problem. If that’s the case, then Hayden Panettiere is on the right track.

The 26-year old film/TV actress has checked herself into a treatment center to help her overcome postpartum depression.

In December 2014, she gave birth to her first child, Kaya, with husband, boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

Though it may seem unusual for someone to suffer from the disorder when their child is nearly a year old, many women can actually relate to the actress’ struggles.

Contrary to popular belief, mothers who suffer from postpartum depression, don’t necessarily feel the need to harm their babies, like what is common in those with ‘postpartum psychosis’.

In fact, most mothers experience a range of emotions that have nothing to do with their babies.

Other celebrities who battled postpartum depression are Brooke Shields in 2005, who took anti-depressants. Gwyneth Paltrow also opened up about it in 2006 after giving birth to her son Moses.

In the Philippines, it’s pretty much taboo to talk about this. But celebrities like Claudine Barretto admitted to having her own battle with the condition after the birth of her son Rodrigo in 2007.
