Do you believe in soulmates? Some might think it is just a meaningless fantasy dreamed up by the illogically romantic. But if you do believe, you will surely agree that it is a deep, powerful bond between two people. How do you find the one? How can you be sure? There may be no single way to identify a soulmate, but there are genuine signs, if you’re willing to see them.

Soulmates do more than just complete us. They make us believe that we are still worthy of love despite our incompleteness.

Finding your heart’s other half doesn’t magically make all your worries disappear. But rather, having a soulmate in your life helps you accept that life isn’t some fairytale — even if you did get your ‘Prince Charming’ anyway.

To identify a soulmate, know that they can be more than a ‘life partner’

Finding the man you want to spend the rest of your life with may have been a long, arduous journey. Or it could have been a whirlwind romance. But no matter what it took for you to marry the love of your life, you will sometimes need a little reassurance that you made the best decision.

Clinical psychologist and relationship expert Carmen Harra has worked with many couples. In all her years of experience, she has come to believe that the power of a soulmate goes beyond being a good life partner.

Dr. Harra believes that soulmates stir up intense passion and inspire you to live your dream life. Most of all, they deeply enrich your soul and spirit in powerful ways.

9 ways to truly identify a soulmate

1. They make you feel something in your gut

You just know. This may sound strange, but once you fall in love it becomes easier to understand this gut feeling.

“There really is no guessing or wondering when the real thing comes along,” wedding officiant and author Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway tells The Huffington Post, adding that when true love arrives, “a voice in your head, a sense of recognition or a gut feeling that this is someone special to you” is one sure sign.

2. They just get you

You don’t need to explain yourself constantly. Not only does a soulmate finish your sentences, he can anticipate your needs without you having to verbalize them. For instance, he knows when you need space, and he can feel when you need affection.

3. You know he’s always on your side

A soulmate roots for you. He believes the best about you, making you feel that you are truly on the same team. Even at times when he contradicts or corrects you, you’re certain that he only wants what’s best for you.

Mom Yddette C. appreciates how her husband always makes time for her and checks up on her throughout the day. He is also not afraid to be lovingly honest with her, which truly makes her believe he is the one.

4. You’re on the same wavelength

Your husband is truly your soulmate if you are strongly linked mentally, even if you have to be apart. You manage to communicate in non-verbal ways.

“They connect fervently on every level of being,” says Dr. Harra, adding that soulmates even “pick up the phone to call each other simultaneously.”

5. You make eye contact more often

To identify a soulmate, observe how often he takes the time to look you in the eye when you speak.  Eye contact doesn’t just convey sincerity, it can communicate how much you value spending time and talking to the one you love.

It can also deepen a couple’s love and connection.

A Japanese study published in Neuroimage claims that constant eye contact makes your brains more in sync, thereby bringing you closer together.

6. He inspires intense feelings in you

Your soulmate doesn’t just merely inspire a deep love, he can also make you feel extreme frustration. This isn’t always a bad thing. It simply means you are deeply invested in your relationship and want to resolve conflict as quickly as possible.

7. You’ve come to love his flaws

Just because your soulmate has amazing intuitive qualities, it doesn’t mean he never makes mistakes. But despite his shortcomings, you still love him and know that his amazing qualities outweigh his faults. In fact, your bond is made even stronger by accepting that you are both flawed human beings.

8. He makes you feel safe and protected

Your hubby is your soulmate if he makes you feel that no matter what comes, you are secure in his love. Not only is he a good provider, he is emotionally mature and available to help you through the tough times in life.

Mom Sam O. says she knew her husband was a “gift from God” because they have a happy relationship and that he is a good dad to their kid.

9. Life would be unimaginable without them

In the same way that you can’t live without him, your husband is your soulmate if he truly needs you. This doesn’t mean being co-dependent or that he can’t stand not having you by his side 24/7. It simply means that even when you’re apart, you are always in his thoughts.

Your husband is your soulmate if every dream he has or decision he makes, whether he realizes it or not, is deeply motivated by his enduring love for you.
