She may be Royalty, but she’s also a mother, and just like you, is on the same roller coaster ride that is parenthood.
This down-to-earth high-profile mom is using her celebrity status and reach for something really good: to help get rid of the social stigma that is still related to mental health issues, not just in the UK but around the world too.
Recently, she opened up about some of her own personal battles fought in motherhood.
Kate’s challenges and support for other moms
Recently speaking at a meeting at the Global Academy, the 35-year-old mother of two reassured fellow moms that the feeling of isolation that sometimes accompanies motherhood is something she experienced, too.
“It is lonely at times and you do feel quite isolated, but actually so many other mothers are going through exactly what you are going through. It is being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out to those around you.”
She made the heartfelt admission while talking to two mothers – Katie Massie-Taylor and Sarah Hesz – who discussed how they forged a friendship while comforting each other through loneliness. These moms co-founded an app called Mush that helps connect mothers.
Commenting on Kate’s admission, Hesz said, “It’s not surprising because we do know all moms feel that, and it doesn’t matter where you live. It is something you go through when you become a mom and it’s a challenge for everyone, whether you’re royalty or a normal mom.”
In addition, the Duchess encouraged parents to start conversations about mental health with children from a young age, and through play if needed if their language skills have not yet developed, reported the Belfast Telegraph.
Kate also warmly acknowledged her brother-in-law Prince Harry for his recent heartfelt admission that he spent 20 years battling with his own emotions related to the death of his mother Princess Diana.
She said, speaking of Harry, “We all felt there was very much a campaign to get everyone talking and have these conversations, (so) we’ve got to do the same…he’s been brilliant.”
Earlier this year, the Duchess of Cambridge shared on Instagram that she would not hesitate to seek help if one of her own kids faced mental health problems and encouraged other parents to do the same.
“One in three adults still say they would be embarrassed to seek help for their child’s mental health. No parent would fail to call the doctor if their child developed a fever, yet some children are tackling tough times without the support that can help them because the adults in their life are scared to ask. It doesn’t need to be like this,” she explains.
One thing is for sure – the world can definitely do with more outspoken and sensible celebrity moms like Kate Middleton, championing important parenting issues for all the right reasons.
