1. Give them a goal

When it comes to motivating your children, giving them short and long-term goals that they can achieve is very important as it helps give them a target that they can aim for. Having something concrete that they can achieve will help motivate them and push them to exert effort in whatever they’re doing.

2. Take it step by step

It won’t be an easy process, especially if your child tends to be easily disheartened. However, take it one day at  time, and don’t rush things. The important thing to consider is that your child is making an effort.

3. Be proud of their accomplishments, no matter how small

Celebrate the small victories. If your child didn’t make the list of honors but his grades improved greatly, then that’s still something to celebrate about. Make them feel proud in their accomplishments.

4. Encourage healthy competition

Competition can sometimes bring out the best in people. Try and encourage your child to join contests and competitions to boost their competitiveness. It will translate directly into being more competitive in life.

5. Let your kids know you believe in them

Sometimes, simply telling your child that you believe in them is the push that they need to feel motivated. Trust your child, and let them know that you’re aware of how amazing and capable they are.

6. Express interest

Showing interest in the things that your child likes is a good way to motivate them. If they’re interested in taking up a sport, why not join them and learn the ins and outs of the sport along with them? It’s a great way of bonding with your kid.

7. Teach them to be passionate

Being passionate about everything you do helps keep a person motivated. Teaching your child to be passionate about the things they love is a great way of inspiring them to be more motivated.

8. Positivity is key

Some kids, for one reason or another, tend to be the type to focus more on the negative rather than the positive. As a parent, it’s important to teach your kids the importance of positive thinking, as positive thinking helps your kid become more resilient in the face of overwhelming odds.

9. Peer pressure can be a good thing

Peer pressure isn’t always bad, especially if your child’s friends are good kids that push him to work harder, especially in school. Make sure that your child makes friends with other kids who are able to pressure them into being a better person. That’s the type of peer pressure that parents would appreciate.

10. Keep your kids excited

Make your kids feel excited about reaching their goals and ambitions in life. Show that you’re just as excited for their success, and they would be even more motivated to work hard and focus on their goals in life!
