Marriages aren’t easy, and there’s always an ongoing process of learning and improvement when it comes to your relationship with your partner.

If you’re looking to kickstart a positive change in your marriage, then why not try these 13 steps and see how it goes. We’re sure you’ll be very happy with the results!

1. Hang out more

Sometimes, couples get too caught up in their work, and tend to neglect just spending time with each other. If you feel that you and your partner are drifting apart, why not try spending some more time with each other? You don’t have to go to a fancy place or go out, just sit or lie beside each other, and talk.

2. There’s a time and place to talk about your problems

Of course, when you’re together, you shouldn’t always talk about your personal problems. Sometimes, it’s best to just leave your problems aside for a few hours, and just be with the person you love.

This doesn’t mean that you don’t talk about your problems entirely, it just means that there’s a right time and place to talk about more serious things.

3. Give each other attention

Don’t forget to pay attention to what your partner is saying. It’s important to listen to your partner, and share your thoughts about what they’re saying. It should be a give and take relationship, not a one-sided relationship.

4. Share your interests

Couples don’t necessarily share the same interests with each other, but it’s important to introduce your spouse to the things that you’re interested in. They might not like it immediately, or be a fan, but the important thing is that you took the time to share a part of your personality with your partner.

5. Look at each other

Seriously, just stare into each other’s eyes. You’ll be surprised at how amazing it would feel to just look someone you love in the eyes. The eyes are the window to the soul after all!

6. Be more affectionate

For couples who’ve been together a long time, they usually stop being affectionate after some time. While it’s pretty normal, don’t let it degrade to the point that you and your partner no longer hold hands or kiss each other.

Being affectionate is very important, and saying sweet things to your partner would make them feel loved and appreciated.

7. Understand that you’re better together

While the both of you are individuals in your own right, being together just makes the both of you better persons in general. So never, ever forget that!

8. Remember why you fell in love in the first place

Remember the first time you realized that you loved your spouse? Remember your first kiss? The first time you held hands? Always keep those things in mind, and your marriage will stay strong.

9. Work as a team

Work on your problems together. Always remember that you’re not alone in the relationship, and if you want things to get better, you and your partner should work on things together.

10. Be considerate

Be mindful of your partner’s feelings. If they seem tired and burned out, don’t get annoyed if they seem irritable. You should also take their feelings into consideration if you’re making a big decision in your life.

11. Know that your spouse loves you

Yup, your spouse loves you just as much as you love them. Maybe even more. Never, ever forget that.

12. Talk to them, and tell them what makes you happy

Sometimes, you just need to tell your spouse what you want. People aren’t mind readers, and communication is very important in a marriage.
