The birth control pill is a hormonal contraceptive pill that keeps you from getting pregnant. It’s known as “the pill” since it comes in pill form. Women take it once a day orally.

The pill has the potential to be 99% successful in preventing conception if taken consistently — that is, if you don’t skip a day or two.

However, perfect pill use is difficult, which is why nine out of every 100 women who are on the pill unexpectedly become pregnant each year.

Hormones in birth control pills work to prevent pregnancy by:

  • Suppression or decrease of ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary).
  • Cervical mucus is thickened to prevent sperm from entering the uterus.
  • The uterine lining is thinned to make it more difficult for a fertilized egg to attach.

Types of birth control pills

There are two types of birth control pills available. Both include hormones that hinder conception.

  • Estrogen and progestin are found in combination tablets.
  • Progestin-only tablets, sometimes known as “minipills,” are beneficial to some women, such as those who are breastfeeding or who have a history of blood clots or strokes and should avoid estrogen.

Lady pills contain Levonorgestrel, and Ethinyl estradiol hormones.

Lady Pills benefits

This kind of pill is:

  • a simple-to-use low-dose monophasic contraceptive tablet It’s also used to treat menstruation issues like painful periods, PMS, and uterine bleeding.
  • It has no effect on the recovery of fertility after it is stopped. In most cases, the patient’s bleeding pattern before taking Lady Pills will return once the medication is stopped. However, some women may have to wait a few months for their normal bleeding pattern to return.

Ethinyl Estradiol + Levonorgestrel or Lady Pills works by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries. Furthermore, ethinyl estradiol works in concert with levonorgestrel to prevent ovulation on a constant basis.

Lady Pills side effects

Serious side effects are uncommon. There is, however, the chance of major side effects, which you should discuss with your doctor.

Side effects that usually do not require medical treatment (but should be reported to your doctor or health care practitioner if they persist or become bothersome) include:

  • Stomach ache or cramps
  • Sensitivity to breasts
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea/vomiting (report any vomiting that occurs within 1 hour of a dose)
  • Spotting
  • Interference with liver functions

Take precautions in taking Lady pills

Emergency birth control should not be used on a regular basis to avoid pregnancy. Consult your physician about birth control options. Make an appointment with your doctor three to four weeks after you begin taking this medication.

After using this medicine, spotting is common. If your next period is missed, you should consider the possibility of pregnancy. You should see your doctor and get a pregnancy test as soon as feasible.

Smoking while on birth control tablets increases your risk of a blood clot or stroke, particularly if you are over 35 years old. It is strongly advised that you refrain from smoking.

This drug will not protect you from HIV (AIDS) or other sexually transmitted illnesses.

Before starting Lady Pills, the patient should inform her doctor if she has any of the following conditions: liver disorders, clotting disorders, breast and cervical cancer, sickle-cell anemia, hormone-active tumors, hyperlipidemia, severe cardiovascular diseases, previous or existing thromboembolic diseases, or idiopathic jaundice.

Lady Pills for Breastfeeding: is it okay?

Breastfeeding mothers should avoid using Lady Pills as the volume of breastmilk produced may be lowered. Breastfeeding mothers can take progestin-only tablets. Before taking any pill while breastfeeding, consider the benefits against the risks. Most importantly, consult your doctor.

How to take Lady Pills

Here’s how to take Lady Pills:

  1. On the first day of monthly bleeding, start taking one pill each day. The patient can begin on any day as long as she is not pregnant and takes a backup technique to avoid pregnancy for the next seven days, such as a condom. Begin with the pill with the number “1.” Stick to the package’s arrows.
  2. At least 24 hours should pass between taking two tablets. Make it a part of the patient’s regular routine, such as after meals or before night, so that she remembers to take it. Each pack has a 28-day supply.
  3. Start a new pack the next day after finishing the last white pill. The patient’s menstrual cycle would most likely return two days after finishing the beige tablets and while taking the white pills.
  4. The pill can be used indefinitely to prevent pregnancy. Even if you take a vacation from sexual activity, remember to take the pill.
  5. Bleeding may occur if the patient quits taking the tablet before finishing a pack.
  6. Vomiting and persistent diarrhea can make it difficult to absorb the tablet. You should take another tablet as quickly as possible if you vomit within two hours of taking one. If your vomiting and diarrhea last more than 24 hours, consult the Missed Pills instructions.
  7. To maintain efficacy, if a beige pill is missed, the patient must take it within 12 hours of the 24-hour gap. Take the remaining pills as prescribed to avoid early withdrawal bleeding. Follow the directions on Missed Pills.

What do I do if I missed a pill?

Take one of the beige pills as quickly as possible if the patient forgets. Even if it means taking two pills in one day, take your daily medication at the same time every day.

Continue to take one pill at the same time every day. If only one pill is missing, the patient will not need to use a backup method of contraception.

If you miss two or more beige pills in a row, your chances of becoming pregnant are doubled. Take the most recently missing beige pill as soon as you recall, and discard any remaining previously missed pills.

Take the next scheduled pill and either refrain from sex or use condoms for the next seven days. Count how many beige pills are left in the pack.

If there are one to six beige pills left in the pack, finish the remaining beige pills and discard the white pills. Use condoms for the next seven days. Start a new pack after you’ve consumed the remaining beige tablets. It’s possible that bleeding won’t happen at regular intervals.

If there are seven or more beige pills left in the pack, consume the entire contents of the pack, including the white pills. Then start over with a fresh pack.

Where should I keep my Lady Pills?

Keep out of reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius (59 and 86 degrees F). Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.

Lady Pills price

Lady Pills cost PHP 50.00  to PHP 52.00 in various drug stores in the Philippines
