According to reports, a 42-year-old man from Washington named Jeffery Lytle accidentally sent a text to his former boss, giving the go signal for someone named "Shayne" to kill his wife, as well as his daughter.
"You said that you would help me kill my wife"
The alleged text message read: "Hey Shayne how’s it going. You remember you said that you would help me kill my wife. I’m going to take you on that offer."
Lytle mentioned in the text message that his wife's insurance is worth $1 million, and that if his daughter was also killed, it would be for $500,000. In return, he said that he will split the insurance money 50/50.
He also requested that "Shayne" to make it look like an accident, or a robbery gone wrong.
His former employer immediately reported it to the police
Robert Alexander, Lytle's former employer who mistakenly received the texts, immediately called 911, and reported the text message immediately to the police.
Lytle was then arrested, and charged with domestic violence as well as 2 counts of solicitation of murder in the first degree.
According to the report, "Jeffery initially denied sending any text message to anyone. However, when confronted, (he) admitted he had authored the text in question but never sent it to anyone and that it was just him 'venting' his anger at his wife."
He adds that there was no insurance in effect, and that he did not have any intentions of harming his wife or his daughter. He maintains that he wrote the text message, but it was in the drafts folder and might have been sent out by his daughter accidentally.
When reached for her comments, Lytle's wife said that she had life insurance, and that they had some financial issues at home, but added that she was "unaware of any marital issues which would cause Jeffery to want to kill her and their young daughter."
