Measles outbreak in Taguig: What happened?

Mayor Lani Cayetano has confirmed that two people have died as a result of the viral outbreak. Both of the victims were not immunized against the disease.

Both of them were part of a group of nine people who were confirmed to have measles, and were being monitored by the local health office.

An outbreak was declared earlier this month in Taguig, after other outbreaks were declared in Davao and Zamboanga earlier this year.

Getting immunized is important

Measles is a highly infectious disease that affects over 20 million people each year. And the best way of preventing any outbreaks is to get vaccinated against the virus.

However, as a result of the recent Dengvaxia controversy, more parents have become afraid of getting their children immunized.

Thankfully, in Taguig, health workers are going door-to-door and explaining the importance of the vaccine. Parents can also get themselves and their children vaccinated by going to the local health center.

It's important to note that not all vaccines are dangerous, or have very strong side effects. You can always ask your doctor about the vaccine's safety, as well as any potential side effects of the vaccine. That way, you're informed in advance.

Parents should always keep themselves informed about any medicines that are given to their kids. It's also a good idea to do prior research, and not depend on what you see and hear online. Your child's health should always be your top concern.
