Marriage is a wonderful thing. However, along with it comes a lot of responsibilities, and sometimes problems that all couples go through.

Here are some misconceptions that most newlyweds have when it comes to marriage:

1. You’ll live happily ever after

Life isn’t a fairytale, and being married doesn’t mean that you’ll always be happy all of the time. That’s why it’s important early on to set your expectations that sometimes, you’re going to fight with your spouse, and you’ll go through some challenges as a couple.

Regardless, it’s important for both you and your spouse to make an effort when it comes to making your marriage work, and minimizing your fights and arguments with each other.

2. You’ll finally be complete

Some people feel that in order to be ‘complete’, they need to get married, especially when people just love saying “you complete me” as a way of showing their love.

But the truth is, no one can complete you. If you feel empty, then don’t look towards your marriage to find that completeness, look towards yourself and try to understand why you’re feeling empty as a person.

Your spouse deserves you at your best, so don’t give them any less than that.

3. Your spouse will change

Reality check: People don’t change simply because they’re married. If your spouse has some bad habits when you were still dating, it won’t magically disappear once you get married.

When it comes to changing a person for the better, it all comes down to talking things out, and figuring out a way that you can solve those problems. Marriage isn’t a solution to your problems as a couple, so don’t think of it that way.

4. You’ll have less sex

Just because you’re married and have kids doesn’t mean you can’t have sex as a couple. Granted, it takes some extra effort for you to find the time for lovemaking if you’re working and taking care of your kids, but as they say,”If there’s a will, there’s a way!”

5. Love is the most important thing

It’s true that love is important in a marriage. Without love, you won’t even think of getting married in the first place!

However, it’s important to remember that love is a feeling. You won’t always be in love with your spouse 100% of the time, since feelings come and go. But what keeps you together is your promise that no matter what happens, you’ll stay married through thick and thin.
