I admire your commitment, but I’m saddened by the fact that you feel like you need to hide. You don’t have to pump milk in bathroom stalls or wait for all of us to leave on break.

Yes, when we’re off to lunch, I notice how you stay behind. You whip out your cape-like cover, and set up your pump so when we return, you’ll be done. I want you to know that you’re free to pump even when we’re around.

I know you struggle at times to produce milk for your little one. Please know that you can confide in us non-parents; we will do our best to offer advice, even if it’s just google-based and not from experience.

You may get side-eyes and judging looks when you attempt to breastfeed in public. But don’t forget our office is a safe, shame-free space, where we celebrate one another’s accomplishments, in the workplace and in the home.

We’re here for you and we’re cheering you on!
