Pregnancy Care
  • Since your immunity is lowered, you must not falter with your hygiene. Wash your hands frequently to avoid getting a cold or the flu.
  • Pregnancy can make you more prone to urinary tract infections (UTI). If you experience any pain when you pee, a strong urge to pee immediately, a fever, or back pain, inform your doctor immediately.
  • Avoid wearing high heels, switch to low-heeled shoes with good support.
  • If you are travelling, avoid long-periods of sitting, whether in a car, train, or airplane, as it can increase your chance of blood clots.
  • Sleep on your side (preferably left side) as it allows for maximum blood flow and nutrients to the placenta and enhances kidney function.
Pregnancy Symptoms
  • You may experience increased sex drive and a boost in libido.
  • Feeling more forgetful lately? You could be having "pregnancy brain"!
  • You may have red, swollen gums and they may even be sore, sensitive or prone to bleeding when you brush or floss.
  • You may have a stuffy nose and the occasional nosebleed due to higher levels of pregnancy hormones.
  • You might be experiencing constipation, heartburn and/or indigestion.
  • You might have varicose veins or enlarged veins in legs and feet.
  • You might be experiencing dizziness.
  • A clear to milky-coloured discharge known as leukorrhea may increase at this point in your pregnancy.
Your Baby's Development
  • Your baby can hear now! By the end of this week, he/she can probably hear your heart beating, noises in your tummy, and maybe, even your voice!
  • Your baby is using his swallowing and sucking abilities to breathe in amniotic fluid, which helps his/her lungs to develop.
  • Your baby's skeleton has started to ossify - the bones of the skeleton have started to harden. His/her legs continue to grow longer.
  • Your baby can sense light now! Even though your baby's eyes are closed, they may register a bright light outside your tummy.
