A 23-year-old magna cum laude graduate of UP Los Baños has been feared as missing after he failed to show up on his first day of work at a new job.

He didn’t show up for work on that day

Michael Kenneth Cruz, the missing 23-year-old, was last seen by his family and girlfriend early on Thursday morning, right before he left for his first day of work.

A licensed chemical engineer, he was supposed to work for a food and beverage company located in Balayan, Batangas. He left from his house in Pasig City and went to a bus terminal in Pasay City since according to his family, that was the route he was familiar with.

His girlfriend, Andrea Baule, said that she received a text message from him at around 3 a.m., and another one at past 4 a.m. to inform her of his whereabouts. That was the last text message that she received from him. She tried calling him several times during the day, but he wasn’t responding.

She started to fear that he might be missing after Michael’s sister called him and said that he didn’t show up for work on that day.

Michael’s family has also put up posters with photos of her son in different transport terminals throughout Metro Manila, hoping that someone might know his whereabouts.

They also asked help from Barangay 97 and 98 in Pasay to see if they could check the CCTV footage for any clues that might help in finding Michael. Sadly, the footage wasn’t clear, so they’re unable to know if Michael showed up in any of the footage.

For anyone who might have any information regarding Michael’s whereabouts, you can contact his mother, Dolores Cruz (09192481855), or inform the Pasay City Police.

Keeping our family safe

These days, we can never be too careful, especially when it comes to the safety of our family. Which is why it’s very important for us to always know what we can do to keep our family safe. Here are some helpful tips:

  1. If your child is going somewhere alone, make sure to know the people that they’re with, and tell them to give you regular updates on their whereabouts.
  2. These days, a cellphone is a necessity. If you have older kids, make sure that they have a cellphone with them, even just one with basic functions like calling and texting, so that you can always contact them anytime, and they can get in touch with you should there be an emergency.
  3. Teach your kids to keep away from people they think are dangerous, and not to talk to people that they’re not familiar with, especially if they’re in a new or unfamiliar place.
  4. Make sure your kids know your home phone number by heart, as well as your address. That way, in case of an emergency, they have a means to contact you, as well as seek help getting home if they get lost.
