Quiapo explosions claim the life of 2 civilians, injure 6

Two consecutive blasts went off in Quiapo over the weekend, claiming the life of two men and injuring 6 other civilians, reports say. One of the two fatalities was a GrabExpress driver who was allegedly unaware of the package he was delivering.

The first explosion happened near the Manila Golden Mosque (Norzagaray Street corner Elizondo Street) at 5:55 pm on Saturday, reports Rappler.

“There are no indications that this is a terrorist attack. The package was intended for a specific person,” NCRPO chief Director Oscar Albayalde told ANC News in an interview.

Investigations are currently underway, but so far, authorities have found no link to the April 28 pipe bomb explosion in the same area. In response telecom companies have announced a shut down of cell reception in the area as a precaution, presumably because the bombs were detonated through mobile phones.
