Society has differing opinions when it comes to “appropriate” time and places to breastfeed. While many moms have been shamed for breastfeeding in public, there are those who encourage moms to nurse their babies when and where they see fit. Pope Francis is part of this support group.
As worshippers gathered for an special annual baptism service at the Sistine Chapel, the Holy Pontiff made his stance on the issue clear.
“The ceremony is a little long, someone’s crying because he’s hungry. That’s the way it is,” announced Pope Francis while in the middle of baptizing 28 babies, reports Kidspot. “You mothers, go ahead and breastfeed, without fear. Just like the Virgin Mary nursed Jesus.”

This was not the first time Pope Francis made breastfeeding moms feel welcome in church. Back in 2014 and 2015, he also addressed the crowd in a similar way. More than highlighting how inclusive the Pope is, it also further emphasizes just how natural the act of breastfeeding is.
