The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed yet another case of the Zika virus in the country.
Through his Twitter account, DOH spokesperson Dr. Eric Tayag shared the news, writing: “confirms second pregnant #Zika; 16 year old from Las Piñas city; had skin rash & fever at 32nd week of her pregnancy; No ultrasound.”
According to an Inquirer.net report, the first pregnant woman who tested positive for the virus showed now abnormalities in her pregnancy after undergoing an ultrasound, twice.
“She’s okay, she’s still being monitored. She has undergone two ultrasound and so far, still normal. She’s expected to give birth in January,” DOH Secretary Paulyn Ubial told Inquirer.net.
The latest case brings the number to 33.
12 cases were found in Iloilo, while four were recorded in Bacoor, Cavite. In Mandaluyong and Calamba, Laguna, there were 3 cases each; Antipolo, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa had 2 cases each and there was one case each in Makati, Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, and Cebu.
Previous reports have found that Zika causes developmental abnormalities in the growing fetus, the most common of which is microcephaly. It has also been found to cause hearing loss and heart ailments.
