Russell Brand is known for plenty of things: comedy, his biting political commentary, his short-lived marriage with Katy Perry, etc. If you happen to follow him on Instagram, you’d probably also know about his online book club #trewLit. While his usual literary fare falls under the inspirational and intellectual, he’s recently added a new genre: parenting books.
The 41-year-old comedian is about to become a first-time father with his girlfriend, 27-year-old model Laura Gallacher, and has been preparing accordingly.
He started off with a book his mom bought him, The Expectant Dad’s Handbook by Dean Beaumont. He described the book as: “Pretty good, good to plug men into what women go through (as much as you can with titchy scribbles words).”

Brand, however, didn’t find Beaumont’s book as good as the obstetrician Frederick Leboyer’s revolutionary book Birth Without Violence, which advocates giving birth in a calming environment—with gentle lighting, a quiet atmosphere, and warm water. Brand described the 1975 book as “a total classic of the genre and a philosophy for life, death.”
The third on Brand’s parenting book list is The First-Time Parent, which was sent to him by none other than the author herself, Sophia Walker. We can’t wait to hear Brand’s thoughts on that once he’s done!
