Putting all rumors to rest, Selena revealed that she had to take time off because she was diagnosed with Lupus. The 23-year old underwent chemotherapy and needed time to really recover that’s why she opted to take a break away from the limelight.
What is Lupus?
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease which can affect various parts of the body (skin, joints, kidneys etc.). Basically, the immune system of those with Lupus are not in sync with the rest of their body.
It is most common in women aged 15 to 44.

What are its symptoms?
Common symptoms include fever, fatigue, weight loss, rashes, anemia, hearing loss, unusual bloating and mouth ulcers.
How can it be prevented?
Though there’s no specific way to prevent Lupus. Those who smoke are more at risk of developing it. So, it’s best to avoid smoking to lessen the risk.
Dietary changes can be made as well to keep symptoms at bay such as eating omega-3-rich fish like salmon and tuna. Increasing calcium intake and minimising trans fat in your daily meals also helps.
