As much they wouldn’t want to admit it, many men can be completely clueless about what could possibly cause their spouses to gradually resent being with them.

Sure, they have the best intentions but there are little things that go unnoticed which could possibly rock the stable foundation of their relationships.

Here are some of those simple things that may not seem like much but they are definitely warning signs that could help men get their relationship back on track.

1. You’ve stopped cleaning up

And this is not just helping out with chores. Some men have let their personal grooming slip.

It could be that you’re just getting into that relationship comfort zone. But, there comes a point when women miss their fresh-smelling suitor who still made an effort to look nice for them.

It doesn’t mean that you have to dress to the nines 24/7 but a little effort goes a long way in showing how much you still care enough to look nice for one another.

2. You forget about your wife and her happiness

It’s not that you mean to, really. But there comes a time when all things seem to become a higher priority without you noticing it.

Current plans go overlooked and little promises are traded in for nights out with the boys or falling asleep in front of the TV.

Yes, time apart and cultivating other interests is all part of a healthy relationship but, if not prioritizing your partner becomes a habit then it could prove to be a dangerous pattern.

3. You stop listening to her needs

“This is not passive,” says psychologist Gloria Vanderhorst. “Listening to establish a connection is an active process.”

“Men tend to analyze situations and generate options,” Vanderhorst says. “That’s guaranteed to make your wife go ballistic.”

When a relationship becomes one-sided and one feels that their needs are not being met, it causes an imbalance.

The important thing is to recognize this before it starts.

4. You neglect intimacy

Both physical and emotional intimacy is the lifeblood of healthy relationships.

One cannot exist without the other if you hope to make your relationship work.

If you feel like you’re only invested in the physical, take time to re-evaluate why this is so and take the necessary steps to correct this before it’s too late.

“The key thing is to spend effort to maintain relationships,” recommends psychologist Crystal Jiang. “I think the spirit here is to stay positive about your partner, tell your partner about your needs and concerns, and encourage yourself and your partner to be responsive to each other’s needs.”

5. You feel the excitement is gone

Women like to be wooed, wanted, and appreciated–no matter how long you’ve been together.

If you no longer look forward to doing romantic things from them, don’t worry. It’s quite normal for those who’ve been together a long time.

But, it shouldn’t fade completely.

Relationships cannot live without new infusions of excitement. We cannot survive without daily encouragement and delight. We never lose the need to be encouraged and championed by our mate,” says Dr. David Hawkins.

His advice? Create adventure: Travel together, have fun together, experiment, and take chances!

Start each day with loving words and gestures even if you don’t really feel like it and be amazed at how sparks will soon reignite.
