The film follows the dream-hopping, tear-jerking adventure of a young girl, Nemo (Marlow Barkley), in Slumberland and in the Waking World.

In Slumberland, Nemo, together with Flip (Jason Momoa), a rowdy inhabitant of the dream world, is running away from a nightmare-fueled monster. Meanwhile, in the Waking world, she and his never-before-seen uncle and last relative, Philip (Chris O’Dowd), are dealing with grief and loneliness caused by the sudden death of her father, Peter (Kyle Chandler).

This children’s movie delicately threads the idea of death, fear, and grief through an exciting adventure, that makes it easy for the kids to grasp.

But, there is immeasurably more to Slumberland, even though the film is geared toward kids (with its enchanting world-building, giant ducks, and magical pearls), do not get caught off guard, as this will make adults cry in tears of sadness and joy.

We recommend this film to everyone who wants to watch a feel-good movie. You can now catch Nemo’s adventure into the Slumberland and Waking world on Netflix.

More than just an adventure movie

In an exclusive interview of theAsianparent Philippines with Jason M0moa, Marlow Barkley, and Chris O’Dowd. They talked about how this film taught them as individuals.

Chris O’Dowd shared his feelings about receiving and reading the script of Slumberland for the very first time.

“I was really touched by it. Honestly, I thought it was a character that I see very often which is in life, but not on screen. Middle-aged man, it was kind of close and stuffed off to the world by looking at a screen or a lot for what a hobby. And has stopped making friends and it’s harder I think as you get older to make friends. And so, he’s not. There’s no. Because of fresh ideas running through his veins and so when I read the script. I recognize that. In, in the character and was drawn to it.”

It’s more meaningful than the children and adventure movies that we see often. Slumberland offers a deep touch to life. And even we adults can relate much to this film.

According to Jason, “What I love his(Flip), just his wild freedom of adventure and I just like, you know it’s kind of a guy that jumps off the cliff and figure it out. I like that impulsiveness about him. I could probably relate to that sometimes too. Maybe probably.

The free-spirited Flip is something everyone can relate to. For us parents, the character of Flip can be a good example to our kids that they shouldn’t be afraid in trying new things even though it’s scary. Having the courage in doing the scariest things can result in success.

I guess every person experiences nightmares, and Marlow who played the character Nemo shared some recent nightmares that experienced.

“I have experienced nightmares, I don’t remember them vividly but I have a big fear of like deep waters. So, I’ve had fears where I was being attacked by sharks. That was terrifying. I didn’t want to go near a pool or any source of water after that nightmare. But yeah, it’s probably being attacked by sharks or being dragged underwater. That’s probably the most recent nightmare I’ve had.” Marlow said.

Sometimes, nightmares made us fear things that we are not familiar with but it doesn’t mean that we should stop trying in facing our fears.

Slumberland, taught us that even in the middle of uncertainty and fear, have courage and you can make it. That’s why Slumberland is good for kids and for everyone. It reminds us that we can do it, we just need a little courage.

In addition, Marlow also told us what lessons she learned from Nemo, her character in Slumberland. She stated,

“I love how brave Nemo is, especially how braveness increases throughout the movie. Because I find that as an inspiration, myself, and she just shows that you can be strong during difficult times. And I think that’s really a great message. “

Lastly, Chris shared the life lessons he learned from the film,

“To try and stay open to fresh ideas. You know, his heart is, his unhappiness is mostly born out of Charles. You know I was of being it’s just it’s a toy in the cupboard that’s been left to gather those that’s what his character is real and he just needed to be  brought around and wield about.”

So parents, don’t miss out on Slumberland on Netflix this coming November 18 and watch it with your family and friends. Dream freely, fear often, and be brave always.
