When I became a parent, I learned that one way to save on baby items is to take advantage of sales and buy in bulk.  And if you’re the kind who’s always looking for good deals when it comes to your child’s needs, checking out SM’s Grand Baby Fair every year should be on your agenda. The latest baby fair is currently ongoing from September 22 to 25.

Dubbed as the biggest baby fair in the country, the 4-day event has the upper halls of SMX Convention Center filled with every thing you will need in your parenting journey – from pregnancy and baby items, breastfeeding accessories, clothing, furniture and travel system, clothes and even some postpartum must-have for moms.

All the biggest and most trusted brands on baby needs in the country are present in this arena. And not only that, they come bearing freebies and huge discounts for eager parents like you.

But if you’re like me, the thought of scouring a huge hall filled with awesome baby items on sale may send you on an anxiety and panic spiral (so much to see, so little time. What to buy, where to start? Aarrgh!).

Not to worry, because if you plan on catching this big event before it ends on Sunday (we’re told that this is the SM’s last big baby fair for the year), we’ve got some tips to make your trip sulit and worthwhile for you and the whole family.

• Make a list

It can be so overwhelming to see all those baby products on display at the fair, so why not come prepared? If you’re pregnant, best to get a checklist for everything that your newborn will need for his first year of life so you won’t forget anything essential when you proceed to the checkout counter.

Moreover, for big-ticket items like cribs and strollers, search the web for items and brands that you like and make a mental note to check them out first at the fair.

• Take advantage of all the freebies.

Brands join big baby fairs to promote their products to their target market – you. So make the most out of it! And what’s great about the SM Grand Baby Fair is you have all the big players in the baby care industry participating and offering huge discounts and free items when you make a purchase.

Get all the freebies that you can, don’t be bashful. You never know – you might just find a good product from all the samples that you got.

• Get the essentials in bulk.

You can never have too many diapers and wipes, right? Those items run out so fast when you’re raising little tots. So check out all the buy-one-take-one promos that these big brands offer. You can get a ton of savings from buying these in bulk, knowing how fast you consume them.

If you’re worried about baby outgrowing the diapers, do not hesitate to buy in two sizes.

• Bring Dad.

Not only is his opinion just as valuable when purchasing splurge-worthy items such as the baby’s stroller, car seat and baby carrier, but you also need his strong dadbod to help you carry your haul.

To excite hubby, tell him he can “test drive” the strollers and check out the features of the car seat before making a decision.

• Let the kids enjoy the festivities.

It’s fine if you want to make this a shopping date with your baby daddy. But if you want to make it a family affair, that’s okay too.

Don’t worry about your kids getting bored as there’s carnival-themed entertainment (balloon artists, jugglers, unicyclists) for them to enjoy. There’s also a big play area for them to go to when you need to rest.

Is baby hungry? Keeping up with the theme, food concessionaires sell hotdogs, cotton candy and snow cones for the little ones. There’s also a fully-equipped breastfeeding station should you need to feed your bub.

If you’re going with your infant, babywearing is the way to go so you have your hands free to check out the different items. You can also bring a stroller so your baby can sleep while you shop.
